There are 3 companies who manufacture cochlear implants. Sometimes we may need to chose the best device for you but usually you will be able to chose which device you would like. If cochlear implant assessment indicates that you are likely to benefit from a cochlear implant, and if you choose to proceed, you will be invited to an appointment where you will be shown the equipment options that are suitable for you. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and at the appointment you will be asked to choose the equipment that you would like. You will be asked to sign forms that give your consent for surgery and that indicate which equipment you have chosen.
At the moment children are offered Cochlear devices. We will discuss this with you at your child's device choice appointment.
