Home Patients Rehabilitation Wearing Your Processor Wearing your processor Current evidence suggests that the optimal time for cochlear implantation, in a child born with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss, is before age 4yrs old and ideally as close to 1 year old as possible. This is because there is a critical time period for developing spoken language. It is extremely important that we give a child as much auditory input as possible during these early years to give them the best chance of achieving spoken language. We recommend that Cochlear Implant users wear their processors for as many waking hours as possible, aiming for full time use of 9+ hours per day to be achieved soon after switch on. We are able to monitor how often a processor is worn through its data log function. We understand that with small active children it can be difficult to keep the processors on.Please see the section below for information on different retention options and hints and tips to keep the processors in place. Parents are able to view the processors data log on the app and this can help to identify any patterns e.g. if it falls off more on a Sunday when at the park. The 'Find my processor' feature is available on some devices and is helpful should the equipment go missing Click here for more information on how to use this feature.
