Support Pathway
At the Scottish Cochlear Implant Programme, we aim to support all patients to achieve the best outcomes with their hearing. We have a Support Pathway, where the team meets regularly to discuss any patients, who may be having issues with any of the following:
- Engagement with appointments
- Participation in sessions
- Equipment use
- Equipment being maintained
- Making progress with language development
- Deterioration in listening or language
- Reported difficulties from parents/patients/local professionals
- Concerns around implant functioning
How do I get added to the Support Pathway?
If you or your child are experiencing any of the above issues, we would discuss the Support Pathway with you before adding your name. You may receive a letter explaining that you have been added and that we will meet as a Team to think about different strategies, which may be helpful.
What happens next?
At our meeting, we will discuss your case and make a plan. A review date will be set to allow the actions to be completed and then the scientist or rehab advisor will report back to the team on progress. If further action is required, a new review date will be set to allow time to try out the new suggestions.
Depending on the issues you are having, we may invite you down to the hospital for further support or this may be provided locally. We will liaise with the local professionals supporting you/your child, including Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People, speech and language therapist, health visitor/named person, GP, referrer, social work and paediatrician. We may refer you to other healthcare support if required.
What happens when my issues are resolved?
When your issues are resolved, you will be removed from the Support Pathway and will receive a letter. You can be added again in the future if required, for the same or a different need.
