Jordan's cochlear implant

Jordan's cochlear implant

Hello my name is Jordan. I am 25 years old and got a cochlear implant in 2024. My parents first found out I had a bilateral sensorineural hearing loss when I was 18 months old and I wore hearing aids most of my life. When I wore hearing aids, my ears had different hearing levels. Having a cochlear implant is very different to hearing aids. It changed my life completely and I’m very happy with it.

When I first had my switch on, the sounds I heard were traffic noise and the sound of cars passing by. At the beginning I had a lot of tinnitus in my ear and a few headaches. Now I have had my CI for 3 months and it sounds completely different to hearing aids. Hearing aids only cut off the background noise but with the cochlear implant I hear everything which I’m very pleased with.  I am very happy with my cochlear implant and no complaints - no issue with it everything going smoothly.

My advice would be if you are thinking about getting a cochlear implant or planning for it, make sure you ask your family members or friends about it and explain what a CI does. In the future you might think “I will definitely go for CI”.
