Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics

Good luck Christina!

Our patient Christina is taking part in the Deaflympics, representing GB in Women's Football in Toyko this month. She is the only Scottish player in the Women's football team!

Christina has always been a keen footballer but was getting fed up of her coaches not using Deaf awareness strategies in training sessions and she was ready to quit.  Christina came along to our transitions day in June and met with the Scottish Deaf F.A.  In just a few months she has gone from a local football club to a GB Olympian!

Update Nov 2025: They won bronze! Congratulations to Christina and the team who won a bronze medal

What are the Deaflympics?

The meaning of Deaflympics is "Deaf +Olympics". The Deaflympics is an international "Olympics for Deaf people" which first started in Paris in 1924.  It is held every four years and is organised by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). The Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics will be the 100th anniversary commemorative games and will be held in Japan for the first time.

To participate in the Deaflympics athletes must have a minimum hearing loss of at least 55dB HL in their better ear and must be registered with the National Deaf Sports Federation of their own country.
